Class Rules and Grading:
In this course, we will arrange 14 seminar talks (e.g., we skip the first week and the final exam week) on various advanced topics in physics, applied physics, and related research areas. The seminar speakers will mainly present their recent research subjects.
You are asked to attend each of the talks on time. Each talk usually lasts approximately one hour, followed by questions/comments from the audience. During each talk, you are expected to learn the scientific contents, slide styles, and presentation skills of the talk. Furthermore, you are encouraged to ask questions and/or make comments based on the talk topic.
Your overall course grade will be determined based on the following:
1) Each student must sign in (before the seminar) and sign out (after the seminar) each time. The attendance score is 60*(n/14), where n is the number of talks the student attends. Only full attendance with both sign-in and sign-out signatures counts.
2) Each student is encouraged (and also required) to ask questions in the talks. Each question will contribute 10 points (with the total maximum being 40 points). Those who ask questions should go and notify the instructor at the end of each class. |
